The clinic provides treatment for most general mental health disorders, including:

• Alcohol abuse/dependency
• Anxiety
• Bipolar disorder
• Depression
• Drug abuse/dependency
• Obsessive compulsive disorder
• Post traumatic stress disorder
• Psychotic disorders (non-acute episodes)
• Older persons mental health
• Memory disorders

Each patients individual circumstances are assessed to determine suitability for admission.

This depends on your health insurance provider and your level of cover.

When you call to ask about an admission the assessment co-ordinator will arrange a fund check with your health insurer, to obtain information of any potential costs to be paid on your behalf.

You will be informed of any gap or extra payments required by your health fund.

Currumbin Clinic has a limited number of private rooms, however, most rooms are twin share with an ensuite bathroom.

Rooms are alocated according to clinical need and room availability.

Naturally you'll share a room with a person of the same gender.

Please call the clinic and ask for the Assessment Coordinator to discuss your admission.

The assessment co-ordinator will do an over the phone assessment with you and discuss your individual case with an accredited clinic psychiatrist. The psychiatrist will review your case. The assessment co-ordinator will contact you to advise if your admission is approved.

A letter of referral from your general practitioner or treating psychiatrist is required at the time of admission.

Yes. A letter of referral from your general practitioner or treating psychiatrist is required at the time of admission.

This can be made out to a specific psychiatrist if you know which doctor you are being admitted under, or alternatively made out to the Currumbin Clinic.

Generally no. Admissions are only accepted during business hours which are Monday to Friday, 8.30 am to 5 pm.

Currumbin Clinic is not able to accept emergency or out of hours admissions.

Parking is not provided for for inpatient admissions

It's recommended you arrange a family member or friend to drive you to the clinic.

Additionally, the clinic's treating psychiatrist may recommend you don't drive at all whilst on any approved day leave.

• Casual comfortable day clothes.
• Night wear.
• Personal toiletries.
• Medication (sealed bottles - no Webster or blister packs).
• Comfortable walking shoes.
• Clothes suitable for excercise.
• Hat / sunglasses.
• Hairdryers / electrical equipment - will require safety check before use.
• Please leave valuables at home. The clinic is not responsible for loss or damage to valuables or belongings.

Yes. However, it's important to turn your mobile phone off while participating in group activities and after 10 pm to avoid disturbing other patients.

You'll have your own bedside phone from which you can make local calls free of charge. You will be charged for calls made to long distance (STD) and interstate.

Yes. However please note that all valuables are brought in at your own risk.

Items must be checked for electrical compliance prior to use in the clinic.

Yes. Please bring these items, particularly if this will help you feel more comfortable.

Please note that photos and pictures are not able to be hung or displayed on the walls.

Currumbin Clinic only accepts voluntary patients. The clinic has a 'No Leave' policy in the first week of admission. If you're well enough, you may be allowed a few hours day leave on the weekends.

You may be offered overnight trial leave the weekend prior to your planned discharge.

Your length of stay is determined by your individual needs and as determined by ydiscussions with your treating psychiatrist and the treating clinical team.

During your admission, you'll be encouraged to participate in lectures, discussion groups and group therapy sessions.

These are an important component to our programs as they provide an opportunity to explore emotional and behavioural patterns. They also provide education about your disorder and  to help you work towards better health.

Yes. Visiting hours are as follows.

Monday-Friday: 6-8 pm
Saturday & Sunday: 1-8 pm

You may have visitors out of these hours however we don't recommended you have visitors during group program times. 

As attendance at group therapy sessions are an integral component of your treatment, visitors are not permitted during these times.

If there is a particular reason for visitors needing to visit outside of these times please discuss with the nursing staff on the unit.
